On May 25th 2022, all the Global Stream (GS) students from J1 and J2 visited the Kobe Earthquake Memorial Museum and JICA.
One of the themes the GS program in term 1 is learning about SDGs, and peace and development of the international community.
This visit was a chance to deepen their understanding of SDGs and the themes which they researched for themselves. It also gave them a chance to learn about the Great Hanshin Earthquake which they were too young to experience themselves.
In the morning, students visited the Kobe Earthquake museum. They got to learn about the earthquake through short movies, the excellent exhibition at the museum, and even a lecture from a former fire department driver who was on the front line of the disaster.
Students had a nice lunch outside with a fantastic view.
In the afternoon, students visited JICA. Here, they got to listen to two lectures. The first was about SDGs and about JICA itself. The second lecture was from a Shoin graduate who lived in Syria for two years. After these lectures, students enjoyed some hands-on learning on the first floor.
Students and teachers enjoyed the experience. We hope students will continue to deepen their understanding of SDGs and the world around them.
