Shoin Recitation Contest 2025

The 23rd Annual Shoin Recitation Contest was held on March 14th, 2026. Junior high students from grades one to three gathered to demonstrate their English-speaking abilities after many months of hard preparation. Since September of last year, students had been practicing their recitations diligently in their Oral classes. Their hard work was clearly visible on the day of the contest as they confidently stood on stage and delivered their performances in front of teachers and fellow students.

First-year students (J1) performed the lively and rhythmic piece “The Ice Cream Man.” Second-year students (J2) recited the classic poem “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” bringing energy and expression to this well-known work. Third-year students (J3) presented original speeches in English about their favorite things and connected well with the audience.

In addition, the Global Course students delivered a variety of engaging presentations on interesting topics. Their presentations showed creativity and confidence when communicating their ideas.

The event was smoothly guided by the student MCs, who did a wonderful job leading the program and keeping the contest running efficiently throughout the morning. Many thanks also to our special guest Mr. Foster from St. Michael’s International School for attending the event and encouraging our students to step out of their comfort zone.

The recitation contest once again showed that improving in English is a journey that takes time, effort and courage. By taking small steps and continuing to challenge themselves, students can make great progress. All the contestants should be proud of themselves for stepping up to the challenge, because you never quite know what you are capable of until you try.
